Subject: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Search for airports within a large radius of a location?
Sure a GPS will show you nearby airports.
And you can if you have the appropriate sectional do a manual search.
I am a newbie pilot just discovered a really neat feature at
http://flightwise.com/pu/ai/fa.aspx
which lets me enter a city and search for airports around it.
Even lets you specify limiting the search to airports and airstrips with at least 1000 feet of runway.
It appears to me that it is, however, searching only about a 20 mile radius of the chosen location.
What I, and maybe other pilots, particularly sport pilots, like myself who fly for fun it would be great to be able to search a bigger radius -- in effect asking a question such as "where can I fly to that's within 100 miles" --- and then look for what might be an interesting place to go.
Anyone know if there any way to reset the search radius?
Or some other aviation site that would do what I have in mind?
Alex
