Depends! In my case same thing with medical. I had angioplasty and stent. Was
able to get special issuance to get license back but needed a bunch of medical
stuff for special issuance EACH year which amounts to about 2 to 3 thousand
dollars for test and putting up with the slow response of the FAA medical
department I was losing about 3 months a year...
So if you need a SI each year it might be easier and less expensive to let
your medical expire and go SP! (Yes you go Sport Pilot not LSA, LSA is a
type/category of plane you fly. Sport Pilot is the rules/license you fly
under)
