...I didn't lose or fail my medical, I just stopped flying and didn't renew it. The cancer showed up 5 yrs ago when I was not flying and caused the speech problem which is the ONLY medical problem I have. The radiation during Cancer treatment has caused my tongue to be partially numb, I speak like after some Novocaine . It may get better but no worse, I may have a restriction etc.,or not.

Actually only if you failed your last medical..
Discontinuing it is OK... In fact that is what you do if you've had a failure.
You get a special issuance one time and let the medical expire..
