Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group PiperSport

Folks,

I think, form what I have read on the web, that the recent discussion is not so much to raise the Gross Weight limit for Light Sport Pilot License as it is doing away with the Third Class Medical requirement for PPL all together ans use the Sport Pilot model of self certification.. There are reasoned arguments form a cost/benefit perspective. This would of course effectively change the need for a Sport Pilot License Category all together for at least fixed wing single engine class. Ultralights I think would still make sense

I know there is a petition to the Dept. of Transportation FAA 2009-0481. Here is a link to the petitioner's web site. if you are interested you can lend your support by submitting a comment or not.
