be their keynote speaker at a dinner they held. The guy gave a lengthy
presentation about the Piper Jet to a bunch of Cub and Cherokee owners.
When he was done and asked for questions, someone asked if Piper was
going to go into the LSA market. Not only did he say no, but he said
they were getting away from their piston roots and planned to stop
supporting older Piper pistons. That went over like a lead balloon.
If I had to guess, I'd say it was a combination of that prevailing
sentiment and the distinct possibility that Chzech Airworks sold Piper a
bill of goods. Pre-Piper, they inflated their numbers and provide poor
customer support. If you remember, the original Piper press releases
claimed a 600lb useful load even with the BRS added in a plane than
never had more than 525lbs without the BRS. Obviously someone at Piper
believed the sales literature. That's just speculation though.
