Re: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group PiperSport

There are some people really pushing for this in the FAA. Ironically
the head of AFS 610 is one of them although I agree with other posters
that this would hurt the sport industry. I personally don't think this
is going to go anywhere anytime soon though. AOPA formally petitioned
the FAA a few years ago to remove the requirement on just the rec
certificate and was denied and more recently, just last year, one of our
local airport managers made a similar proposal for the PPL and was
denied. While a number of folks in the FAA would like to see this
happen, it does not appear that those are the same people who make the
decisions.

A not on regulatory process. The FAA doesn't just "decide" on new
rules. If they were interested in making this happen, they would issue
an NPRM - a Notice of Proposed Rule Making. Then everyone from you and
me to the Office of Management and Budget would comment on it for
several months until a specific date. Then months or years later the
FAA would either table it or come out with a changed but finalized rule.
