Hello
A Cub is made using skilled labour with lots of small parts if you stay as a tube and rag plane Lots of the cutting can be done on machines but it still needs assembling and welding
Piper need to use the QA system and management in place already both which add significantly to the costs
Cub Crafters have a much smaller overhead as it is tailored to the target markets needs
 Do the numbers Cessna builds 300 or so 162's a year If Piper matched that and had a margin of 50K its only $15 million for a lot of infrastructure
The real reason they dropped the Czech plane is likely to be compliance to Pipers QA system that left Piper at significant risk
