Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Cost of renewing a recently expired BSR chute? Fail annual if not renewed?

Buy the way? What exactly is the fabric it's covered with?

I don't know much about aircraft fabrics, but understand there are several different types in use… some better than others. Any idea how much life, if hangered, yours is supposed to have?

I'm virutally committed to buying a nice LSA (a Skyranger w/912 Rotax, etc.)

I'm about to put a non-refundable $500 hold deposit on it, and the owner is operating in good faith and I've had it pretty extensively check flown and examined, etc.

But one potential issue is coming to my attention at the last second here that I wanted some advice on --One that I hadn't really thought through:

The chute on the BRS is just out of date by a few months.
It's my understanding that the propellant/rockets typically have a much longer expiration date, but where it was mounted without taking it off we could not see that date, so I assume that part is within date.

Anyone know ballpark how much the repacking (or whatever they call it) for the chute might cost me? Is it small change or sticker shock?

Would it fail its next annual if I didn't get the chute repacked/renewed? Or would I be forced to chose between renewing it removing it, or not passing the annual?

I do know that new chutes are big ticket items, so getting a bit afraid the renewal could also be.
