SWITZ CITY, Ind. (AP/WISH) - Indiana State Police say two men are dead following the crash of an ultralight aircraft in southwest Indiana.
Trooper Eric Russell said the Red, 2006, Sportflight International LLC, Model Astra HKS crashed at 6:15 p.m. into a soybean field just south of the Shawnee Field grass airstrip in Greene County's Fairplay Township.
Police believe the pilot attempted a left turn upon landing and struck the ground, killing both the passenger and himself. Police said both men were restrained and wearing helmets.
Police have identified the pilot as David C. Johnson, 68, of Linton, Ind. They say the passenger was 42-year-old Mark E. Muzii of Bloomington.
The Bloomington Herald Times reports that rescue workers tried to revive the men but were unsuccessful.
A farmer, who owns an adjacent property, said the aircraft was mangled and in pieces but that there was no fire, the Times reported.
Russell says the Federal Aviation Administration has been contacted.
Members of the Switz City Fire Department and Worthington Police Department also were on the scene.

What "ultralight" crashed in Indiana today? Two people killed, so, no, it wasn't an ultralite.
