Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: E-LSA with larger baggage area?

I haven't researched the Wag-A-Bond kits out fully, but they also have the Traveler kit. It is listed as having a gross weight of 1450# which is to heavy to be light sport compatible. However I was at the Pacific Northwest Aviation Conference and Trade Show yesterday. The local FSDO has a presence there so I looked up their certification representatives. I was have been at a set of plans that has a 1450# gross on the plans and I asked if I could built it according to plans, but then register it as an Experimental A/B with a Gross Wt. set at the 1320# limit. They told me as long as this particular airframe has never been certified any way else I can set my own weight limit. So, yes I can take what the plans call a 1450# plane and have it certified with a 1320# gross weight Light Sport Plane compatible. This seems to open up an entirely new set of possibilities.

That is so I can crawl out from underneath the FAA's thumb where maintenance is concerned. The Aeronca Chief fits the LSA category. But, unfortunately, it does not fit the Experimental category. Which is indeed unfortunate. For there are several Standard and Utility category aircraft in which I would love to own.
