Whoops, only supposed to go to Helen. My bad.

Helen,
I did all the P mx on my Rotax and plane since I bought it plus a lot of research work for the company that built it. As a result several changes were made in the product that followed. All this was done with the factory and dealers knowledge and encouragement's. Up to the 150 hour mark when Rotax did the school thing and made the restrictions' on owner work. I havn't touched it since then and that was just about 50 hours ago. So now it is close to the 200 mark and needs a lot of work done at this time period, according to the checklist's.
Bob C. has the schooling and rating to do the work and is close by so I can have him do the work. Question is the work before it is signed off by local A&I's, which apparently don't/didn't have the authority to sign it off now but did back then, supposedly. I have all the email instructions and correspondence from dealer/factory that covers the work that was signed off.
So the question is, can Bob or anyone else do work, legally, on my plane/engine systems since they are not original factory delivered condition and have been modified, signed off or not.
So the explanation given for who can now do what is totally un-explained in my case. Nothing seems to fit. I have done no illegal work since it was done previous to Rotax's decision for mandated training. The MX manual has always said to follow Rotax instructions which was done in every case. Because of this my time in the plane has reduced substantially since the Rotax decision.
What is your thinking on this?

OK. I just got off the phone with 610. The word now is that an A&P no longer needs to go to factory specific training or 2 year renewal of such to work on a Rotax (except for warranty work). However, this does not apply to light sport repairmen or owners wishing to do preventative mx like changing their oil. They still need to go to school every two years. Also, A&Ps do still need Rotax, just not factory specific training.

Yes, and that's to be expected.. for warranty work.
By the way, did Eric talk about the whole "you can't force people to take Rotax training" issue for non-warranty work? What is Rotax's position on that now?
