Well…I flew 1000 miles from Davenport, IA to Sun N Fun in a Skyeton K10 Swift. I had a few “windy” legs and yea, you had to fly the airplane and not really relax much. Once the ceilings lifted and I could get some altitude to smooth air, it was hands/feet off flying. Really an enjoyable trip, scooting along at 100 kts and only burning 4.5 gph to do it. You can get autopilots in most LSA’s for pretty darned reasonable, if you want to sit back and watch the world go by. Now, would I rather fly my Cherokee on that same trip? Yes. But the trip to Sun N Fun in a Light Sport, was certainly something I wouldn’t mind doing again.

Subject: Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Are LSA impractical?
Seriously, is the wing loading too light to use an LSA for travel? I like the Technam Sierra, Czech Sportcruiser, FK Polaris, or Arion Lightning style crafts. The instructors I deal with don't like LSAs much because they're "extremely touchy" or "aren't much use on windy days" or "are very unforgiving". They tell me LSA will "beat you to death". So...are they impractical to rely on for travel?
Thanks, Mark
