I would not put Amsoil in any thing, I have tried it in three engines and all of them up in about one thousand miles. One only had 24,000miles on it it threw a rod and busted a piston. Never again, its no dam good.

Are you saying that you would not recommend using, say, Amsoil at 100:1, if the mfg'r. called out something else at 50:1?  What oil do you use, and at what ratio?

Oils come and go, but what will never change is the oil-to-gas ratio as proscribed by the engine manufacturer.  As long as the oil type is what is recommended, and the oil ratio is what is recommended, you should be free to try what you like.  I've tried a wide variety of oils, but they all meet the minimum requirements and oil ratio per the mfg.  I've not been able to detect much of difference between them, so I tend to look for the best price.

                At the risk of starting up the old oil debate….  I was at my local lawnmower parts establishment yesterday.  It is owned by a pilot friend of mine who is quite knowledgeable about engines of all types.  We got on the subject of two-cycle oil and he introduced me to an oil called Opti-2.  It is supposedly a new type of formulation, requiring only 1.2 ounces per gallon for any two-stroke engine, regardless of make or mix ratio.  It has an ISO rating of EG-D++ which is the highest rating available.  You can check it out at  www.opti2-4.com .                 I would appreciate comments, positive or negative, especially those of the constructive variety.
