What number are you looking at? Student pilot certificates issues I suppose. While that might give you an indication of the number of primary students, it won't give you any information on advanced training, or training provided that would not show up in this data. Also, there is no way to ever know how many of the instructor are even active. I personally know several people who keep their CFi rating current, but haven't taught one minute in several years
