Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group The latest EAA Hotline

Today, EAA writes about this "around the world trip" being made. The article is here: http://www.airventure.org/news/2009/090729_sling.html

Can some please explain to me, how a a plane that has an empty weight of 799 lbs, carries two people, and has been modified to carry over "118 gallons of fuel", can possibly be called an LSA?

Ok ok, its probably not really registered as an LSA, so I'm not sure they should be referring to it as one.
