No they (LSA) are just as safe as their Part 23 brothern and I would like to see that continue. Going the IFR route is -NOT- LSA by definition. This is simply a way of going around Part 23 for manufacturers. That was not the intent of LSA and SP rule and certainly Part 23 should not be replaced with consensus minimum standards.
Going IFR causes more chances of accidents happening and giving a bad name to LSA movement. Read between the lines here. IFR capable = flight in adverse conditions, possibly with a older no Class 3 med having pilot who was previously IFR rated (and you know that will happen) = false sense of security = tragedy = NTSB investigation = NTSB recommending to tighten up LSA rules = FAA shutting down IFR route via ASTM standards on LSA
