Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group TSA and 49 CFR 1552

also called the Alien Flight Student Program...

Hi! Is there anybody out there who has some experience with this or maybe even has some advise?

Here's my problem: I'm a Lawful Permanent Resident with previous flight experience (holding foreign UL and glider licenses) and I want to start my Sport Pilot license now that I have settled here.
I found a nice instructor I really want to go with but he wasn't registered for the AFSP yet and so he started that process on Monday through the TSA-controlled website flightschoolcandidates.gov . He also tried to call them for days since then to verify that everything's going its way but all he got is a message saying they were closed due to a federal holiday.
Now it's Friday and he still doesn't show up as a provider when I try to put my training application in, so I'm sitting here and I don't know how long I'd have to wait for this process to even get started.

Did anybody else go through this process here and could share some time lines with me?
Should I maybe just give in and find another school that is already registered to get the process going?
My goal is to get the training done ASAP and get back to flying.

Thanks a lot!
