Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: can there be an "LSA" electric plane????

Check out the latest Ultralight and Sport Pilot Flying. There are several enumerated there, including a single-seat Flightstar Spyder now lightened and electrified, known as the eSpyder which falls under Part 103 rules. Right now, as I recall without going back and re-reading it, the eSpyder will take you for a 45 minute spin. Others claimed up to 1.5 hours, I think. There is a lot of work going into electric propulsion. One of the biggest limits right now is the battery. They are getting lighter and will get lighter still. The rate of recharge is several hours now, but may get down to half an hour.

The writer compared the cost of operation over time between electric and 2-cycle. With TBO’s on the 2-cycles and all costs in the beginning, it was just about a wash.

I’ve got to go back and re-read that once more to get the details in my leaky cranium.

Blessings!

Fr. John
