(EAA UL 30), and there is a larger number of Sport Planes in our club than ULs . A lot of our support early on and even now is from GA guys. My view has been to accept any and all who show any interest in aviation be it RC to whatever. I got the local Cub Scouts out to the airport for one of our meetings to share food with us and see some planes. Not a huge event, but let one of those kids and some parents see me or any pilot that interacted with them around town and they can't stop talking about time time they had. As Dan said we try to stay active, introduce new ideas, and try to encourage everyone, the last being the most important. These kids may not do much now, but the seed was planted.
We have guys that don't fly any more, some with planes, some without, but they still come out for activities. And even some working their way towards their first flight. We are probably a more social than technical, but everyone still seems interested in the new sport planes and ULs being built by our members. It's not just the leadership that drives the club, our members do. As leaders I think we are coordinators and points of contact, to help everyone to the best that we can.
