Alternative engines are not an option for any liability or time/deadline conscious production company. They may (or may not) be options for one off 51% builders in the experimental market. You are trying to compare apples and oranges when comparing a KR-2 to a trike. Would you compare a Honda GoldWing to a Toyota Camry. Would that make any sense??

Some of your thought process suggests that you think trikes should be delegated to cheap, make no progress aircraft. I would despise that connotation as an avid triker.
