Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: perfect for my situation

Looks like an excellent aircraft and would suit me well too.
I'd LOVE to have one, and would have jumped at a chance to train in one and rent on if the option had existed.

Their claim that it's "at a cost nearly half that of our competitors" may be more-or-less true.
But at $85,000 I still don't see most flight schools or independent CFIs rushing out to buy one rather than, say, that very nice $35,000 1982 Cessna 152 for sale with only 800 hours on the engine.
Nor do I see very many wanna-be pilots -- currently deterred by just the cost of even just the training for sport pilot -- suddenly saying "Oh, boy! I can buy this for only $85,000! Honey, where's my checkbook?"

I delighted to have my SP license and own half of an LSA, so SP and LSA has worked out for me.
BUT If I had to put money on bets on the table I still suspect in the next 10 years there's not even going to be a significant increase, let alone the hoped for flood, of new pilots coming in via sport pilot/LSA -- and that UL will continue to decrease and the total number of pilots flying will continue to drop while the overall population continues to increaase.

The good news for anyone in a position to buy is that with the number of pilots decreasing and due to other factors, it's likely there will continue to be some very good buys in used aircraft.

The bad news for folks shopping for used LSA-legal aircraft is, I suspect, that with more GA private older pilots not wanting to face another medical, but shopping for an LSA to be able to fly with sport-pilot privilages, the price of used LSA's will get driven up for a while.

There is one other factor: If the EAA/AOPA proposal to let PPs fly their Cessna's (etc) with limitations withOUT medicals does go through that pressure on raising prices the used and new LSA market could go down.

My two cents.

Alex
