I assume you mean a private DPE (designated flight examiner)?
Right

He/she isnot an FAA employeee .

Little knon factoid I definitally read:
On can take a practical fllight exam from an FAA employee.
No charge.
I've never heard of anyone doing it.

I IMAGINE thhat ---
a) You'd have to wait a long time to get an appointment
b) You'd have to go whre THEY wanted to doo the test.
c) You might find PTS applied more stringently..

Anyone else know anything about this option?
