I am very sorry to hear about your experiences or opinion whichever it may be. I've been an officer in clubs on and off for 25 years and I too have seen a lot of them wither but most weren't due to overactive leadership. Some were just the opposite. No one willing to lead! All clubs elect officers. If the members don't like the result they can elect different officers. Great flying clubs were not really great clubs if they vanish simply because they are too dense (or unable) to elect better officers.
We have worked hard in our UL club for 26 years to keep the flying in our flying club. We meet every month at a different airstrip on a weekend except for a few months in the winter. We don't meet on a weeknight at a restaurant every month. We don't rely on one or two fly-ins per year to get our members together. We have about 9 per year and some are blown out but we have been going for 26 years typically about 20 members and over 125 since inception. I guess that makes us one of the great clubs.
