Light-Sport Aircraft Yahoo group Re: Labor day weekend???

Dan,

I've been a club president and a member of a couple of clubs. I'm
currently a member of a fantastic EAA club and considering joining
another that is closer to home simply to support them in their good
efforts.

What I've seen had come about because of what you stated. No one
wanted to lead the club so the ones that were selected were the only
ones that were willing to take the position and did so for all the
wrong reasons. I've seen one club absolutely disappear because of this
and another is quickly approaching extinction.

When clubs get away from the whole purpose for the club, i.e.
promoting safe aviation to the community around them, then it is my
opinion and experience that the club is no longer useful. Of course
they can be turned around but most times the serious members will tend
to gravitate towards clubs where they feel they can be useful and
accomplish some goals and objectives both for themselves and the club.

A few groups have melted down to where they meet once a month, push
all of the hangar queens out on the tarmac, have a BS session, eat
some food, roll the planes back in the hangar, and go home till next
month.

The great clubs are doing workshops, scholarship programs, young
eagles, fly-ins, school builder's projects, and many other community
out reach projects. My apologies if I sounded negative as that was not
my intent.

Thanks for the reply ...

Dale
