Yes, Helen, you are correct.  I was thinking in terms of being PIC, not just riding around essentially as a passenger pushing the stick/yoke around.

Yes and no. He could still fly and even log the time, however he could
not act at PIC of the flight. Another pilot would have to be on board
as acting PIC.
